The Eureka E10S

The E10S is an excellent option for homeowners who want to save time, while still managing the daily accumulations of dirt, pet hair and other messes. The robot vacuums as well as mops. Despite its advanced capabilities, it uses very minimal energy for cleaning and is extremely efficient.

The app that controls this robot is well-designed and easy to use, with an easy-to-use interface. The main screen displays basic information, such as the status of the dust bin, filter, and mop plate. You can also design highly customized schedules as well as set cleaning modes and create reports in the app.

You can also set up zones that block the robot from entering certain areas of your home. The IQ's companion application allows you to distribute the IQ to specific rooms. You can also re-start a cleaning session where it started if charging is needed partway through. Also, you can schedule multiple cleaning sessions within one day, if needed.

The IQ XL did an excellent job on hard floors, but struggled with carpets with a medium pile. It was unable to pick up larger crumbs, and occasionally pushed debris into corners that it shouldn't have. This is partly due to the side brushes of the robot, which sometimes flick dirt away or fail to channel it into the room, and also because it navigates in straight lines instead of zipping around like more advanced robots.

You can create no-go areas on the map of the IQ XL application by draggin boundary rectangles. These boxes can be difficult to draw and tweak. We prefer virtual walls.

The IQ XL also has a feature we found extremely useful the Ultra-Clean Mode. This mode doubles the robot's suction power, and utilizes its brushes to sweep the floor in a crosshatch pattern. This feature is particularly useful in areas with high traffic. However, we're disappointed that it's not available on the current models. You can set a schedule that will automatically activate an Ultra-Clean system for any room within your home.

The Next-gen Shark UR2500SR: AI Ultra Robot Vacuum Matrix

Although it doesn't have the same features as the iRobot Roomba lineup, Shark's ION-series robot vacuums punch above their weight with LIDAR mapping capabilities and an auto-emptying base station. The Matrix on the other hand takes things a step further by offering the ability to do both vacuuming and mopping.

The Matrix like all robotic vacuums, can be used to clean your floors using a traditional upright, or equipped with a power pad that can agitate the floor and scrub it for a more thorough clean. It can also be used in vacuum/mop modes, which employ the same cleaning pad to both cleaning your floors and removing any stubborn dirt or stains. The powerful cleaning mode of the matrix is particularly effective on carpets, as it makes use of an array of grids to make multiple passes over dirt and debris for 30% better stain removal when compared to Roomba robot vacuums.

The Matrix is also much simpler to use than the modern Roomba. Shark's app allows you to create a spot-cleaning zone simply by draggin a rectangle into the tab you have designated. Roomba users must manually identify and designate the cleaning zone. The Matrix also comes with the option of a physical button that allows you to start cleaning, without opening the app.

The Matrix also comes with additional features that enhance the quality of life including three suction power settings (normal, Eco and high-power "Max") and a recharge/resume feature that lets it to pick up exactly where it left off in the event that it has to return to its dock. Its battery life is slightly longer than the AI Ultra, and its overall performance for debris pickup was exceptional across a variety of different types of surfaces.

The only downsides to the Matrix is that it uses up its battery more quickly than other models, and its cleaning of pet hair is somewhat inconsistent. Still, this is a good choice for most households, and the Matrix enhances the AI Ultra in several key ways. It's built better, recharges quicker and is able to pick up more debris from flooring that is low-pile. Plus, its 'Eco' and 'Max' modes are a nice improvement over the AI Ultra's Normal mode.
