Broken or cracked panes

Glass that is cracked could be caused by a lawnmower that throws rocks at the wrong time or branches of trees being blown by strong winds. Begin by carefully removing the glass using gloves and sunglasses. You may have to use a utility knife to remove old glazing compound or putty around the frame's edges. Then, use a soft cloth or paper towel to wipe the glass's surface and wood of the frame.

After cleaning the area, apply silicone caulking that is waterproof around the frame's perimeter. This will prevent water from leaking into the frame through the cracks and causing further damage.
