The iRobot Roomba 980, the most recent of a series of top-of the-line robot vacuums, is a must for any modern home. It also has a large battery that can be cleaned for up to two hours and returns to its dock automatically once the bin is full.

In our tests of its performance it was found that the Roomba 980 did well on both hard flooring and carpets. It scored highly on low-pile carpet and also on mid-pile. It did a decent job of removing pet hair, but it struggled with extremely thick and floor washing Robot Cleaner long pet fur that was clumped together.

It's also less expensive than other top-of the-line models. It has many of the features we would expect from a top model but does not have all the fancy apps and smart home integrations you'll see in other top models.

The iRobot Roomba is easy to set up and get working immediately. After taking the yellow bin insert and pull tab from the undercarriage, you simply plug it into an outlet on the wall or to its Home Base docking stations, click the "Clean button" and let it do the work. It will automatically return to its dock when its battery is out or is full of debris, and it has indicator lights on the top of the device to indicate that its bin is full, it needs to be recharged or if its Wi-Fi signal has gone out.
