The X8 is still a decent vacuum on floors with no dust, slinging debris under its side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin with relative ease. Its tyres are adept at hugging edges and corners, even though they are circular. Our tests showed that it was able to remove 90% of the fur on hard floors.

The basic mopping mode uses the same reservoir of water as the vacuuming mode. While this is great for loose spills, you can't limit the amount of water it is using and this will reduce its effectiveness for more serious stains. The 980's other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes which grab dirt from carpet and hard floors and the spinning brush that sweeps debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. Its floor tracking sensors aid it navigate around furniture and along edges, while Cliff Detect keeps the Roomba from falling down the stairs. It also automatically returns to its base station for easy charging between sessions. Although the 980's battery lifespan and bin size aren't as efficient as some other robot vacuums, it's a sturdy and reliable machine that can keep your floors clean for hours at a time.
